Speaker: Ian Baker
Ian will show how thermal signatures of small mammals and marsupials can be used to unlock their secrets, including thermal sensitivity and bioluminescent cooling, revealing an unexplored world of infrared adaptations. The infrared arms race has driven the evolution of predators and prey for over 200 million years & Ian will show some of the incredible adaptations that small mammals and their predators have evolved. Ian is an Engineering Consultant at Leonardo UK Ltd, a manufacturer of infrared detectors and cameras. He also uses the equipment in local wildlife projects. His published research identifies possible novel functions of mammalian fur.
