Gaseous Galactic Haloes: The Circumgalactic Medium Around Galaxies - BNSS

Event date: 6th May 2025 at: 7.30pm (in house and zoom)

Speaker: Dr Andrew Cook

The circumgalactic medium is a region of gas that surrounds galaxies and plays a vital role in the formation and evolution of galaxies. In this lecture, Andrew Cook explores the evolution of the universe and galaxies from the perspective of its gaseous contents and what it can tell us about the future of galaxies.

Andrew Cook, a recent PhD graduate from Cardiff University in Computational Astrophysics, is a researcher of galaxy evolution utilising computational simulations to understand how the gaseous environment around galaxies, the circumgalactic medium, evolves and interacts with the host galaxy.
